About the experience

Join us at our village guest house in Bagravan, Shirak Province, to learn how to bake traditional Armenian sourdough bread, as well as arishta [ah-reesh-tah], traditional wheat noodles. We’ll begin with a short tour of our guest house, built with an architectural style reminiscent of the medieval Armenian capital of Ani, and decorated with village antiques from the Soviet period. Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and start baking! To compliment the sourdough bread we’ll make using the whole wheat that grows abundantly in the Shirak plain, we’ll also make toppings using local, seasonal ingredients like grilled peppers, fried sorrel, and local string cheese for Armenian-style bruschettas, as well as a unique tarragon yogurt dressing to top the noodles made from the same wheat.

If you have any dietary restrictions such as food allergies, please let us know over email during the confirmation process after you have successfully booked your experience through this platform. We’ll be sure to ask just in case! Transportation from Yerevan to Bagravan is also available at extra cost. We’ll confirm all the details after you have booked.

Hi! I’m Ani, co-founder of Vahantun Guest House where this experience takes place. My family and I are originally from Gyumri, Armenia’s second largest city and a short drive away from our spot in Bagravan village. We created Vahanatun, which literally means “shield home,” in this village near the border with Turkey to spur economic development and attract travelers like you to this corner of Armenia, where there’s lots to do and experience, despite the village’s size. We and our neighbors in the village can’t wait to host you!
