Hosted by Anushavan & Mariam

Both born and raised in Areni village, husband and wife Anushavan and Mariam are not new to hosting travelers – the two have been working together at their family winery for some time now. When it comes to the Wild Food Adventures menu, Mariam is especially proud of her tolma, which is made with local grape leaves and continues to garner praise from her guests. Another dish dear to her is the tarragon salad, which combines some of her grandfather’s favorite foods – tarragon, horats panir (goat cheese aged underground with herbs in a clay pot), and grapes – into one tasty dish. Preparing it keeps his memory alive. Love is at the heart of everything that Anushavan and Mariam do, and Mariam especially loves to see the look of satisfaction on the faces of her guests after they try one of her dishes. “It makes me proud.” Anushavan believes that the warmth of Areni locals combined with the stunning nature where the meal is set makes for a unique experience for travelers.

As part of the development of the Wild Food Adventures: Areni Cliffs with ONEArmenia, Mariam and Anushavan also took part in an extensive culinary and hospitality training program at Yeremyan Academy. They have been an essential partner in developing this experience.

This menu was carefully created by your hosts with support from an expert Armenian food historian, and is based on the culinary traditions of the region. All ingredients are seasonal and locally sourced.

Local, seasonal ingredients: All our dishes are cooked using seasonal ingredients sourced from local communities.

Native, authentic recipes: With the support of an expert Armenian food historian, your hosts have created a menu that is true to the culinary and cultural traditions of each location while preserving its cultural heritage with local and near-forgotten recipes.

Expertly trained community hosts: Your hosts have been trained in the culinary arts, hospitality, customer service, and food hygiene so that you can enjoy the Armenian Highland in comfort.

Untouched natural landscapes: Your experience is set in a place of outstanding natural beauty. A donation of 2,000 AMD from your trip will go to the Caucasus Nature Fund, who will double that amount and send it to a local conservation organization to ensure that we not only keep it beautiful but contribute to its wellbeing. In Areni, your donation will go towards the Arpa Protected Landscape, and in Yeranos, the Khosrov State Reserve. Additionally, your hosts have been trained in environmental protection and waste management to keep these landscapes untouched.
