Dreams of Terroir

Hop from family-run tasting rooms to modern wineries in Armenia’s three main grape growing regions and experience the world’s longest-running winemaking tradition. We’ll connect you with local winemakers to learn about their time-honored craft, taste their wines, and dine on local delicacies in gorgeous vineyard settings. Along the way, take in the views of Armenia’s most impressive hiking trails and mountain passes. Grab a lover or friend and get ready to get drunk in love with Armenia.

Depart from Yerevan for Vayots Dzor Province and start your wine jaunt by visiting the world’s oldest winemaking facility, which is over 6,000 years old! Then get a taste of local flavors over lunch in an award-winning vineyard with stunning views of the Arpa Valley, the first of 6 small-scale wineries you’ll have the chance to experience on day one. Spend the afternoon exploring the village where homemade wine reigns and traditional methods are upheld by villagers. End your day with the best view in the village during a sunset dinner at a popular family-run winery vineyard. Enjoy the starry sky during your overnight stay in the village at one of our recommended accommodations.

Make your way deeper into Vayots Dzor and discover the region’s must-see sites like a 13th-century monastery and an even older 5th-century fortress, accessing them by hiking or by car. For lunch, feast on an all-local meal paired with internationally-recognized wines before making your way north on an old Silk Road route. At the best preserved caravanserai in the country, you’ll have the opportunity to take in what we think is one of the best views in all of Armenia. As you leave Vayots Dzor and enter the Gegharkunik region, feel the vast rolling landscape around you with the option to drive or hike up an extinct cinder volcano, before you reach Lake Sevan, the largest high-altitude freshwater lake in Eurasia. Cheese lovers will want to stop at a local cheese cellar to try 10 different unique cheeses paired with homemade wines while en-route to your accommodation. Spend the night on the lake shore or in a quaint village nearby before continuing your journey on day three.

From Lake Sevan, head south to the Aragatsotn and Armavir provinces, where modern winemaking techniques are pressing out (not squeezing) some of Armenia’s best wines. The country’s wine renaissance is in full swing here, where you’ll find large factories, as well as small-scale makers who continue ancient traditions at home. We have a long, curated list of our favorites you’ll have access to. If you or your designated driver happen to drink a bit more than planned on the last day of your adventure, or at any point along your journey, our team will gladly arrange to have you picked up and driven back to Yerevan at the end of your road trip (surcharge applies).

We are an experiential travel brand that connects travelers to Armenia through meaningful experiences. We developed this product to do just that, designing routes – like this wine-themed itinerary – to not only bring you closer to local people and experiences that are off the beaten path, but to also help bring both revenue and attention to these communities. We’ve tested these routes ourselves, and curated a list of recommendations for sites, food, and accommodations. Rather than treat the stops on your chosen itinerary like boxes that need to be ticked, we hope you’ll travel slowly, at your own pace, and get a real feel for these parts of the country that not all travelers get to experience.

We want you to have an unforgettable road trip experience that also benefits local communities and culture in Armenia. Here’s how we’ve built it so that both those things happen:

Authenticity – We’ve incorporated various aspects of Armenian culture and history – like a playlist of catchy Armenian tunes and a snack box filled with locally produced goodies – into your experience so that you get a true taste of what road tripping in Armenia is like.

Storytelling – Our team has spent lots of time on the ground researching the real stories behind the people you’ll meet and the places you’ll visit to help you better understand and connect with their culture as you journey into the unknown.

24/7 concierge service – Can’t quite understand someone you’ve met along the way? Need help booking an overnight stay or experience? Having some technical difficulties? Support is available 24/7 by call or text to help you better experience Armenia.

Carbon-conscious road tripping – We understand that road tripping means more carbon dioxide emissions, which is why we’ve partnered with My Forest Armenia, a local organization committed to creating and protecting forests in Armenia, to calculate the emissions released from your road trip and plant trees which – as they grow – will lessen its effect and help keep Armenia green and clean.
