Say it like two thousand four hundred ninety-two and add a B-C, and you’ve got the year that Hayk, mighty archer and legendary patriarch of Armenia, defeated the Babylonian tyrant Bel, and united the Armenian people.

But say it like two-four-nine-two, and you’ve got us: the first and only brand and platform for extraordinary travel experiences that create positive change in Armenia’s rural communities.

What we do

For all the places that our travels take us, we too often leave without having truly understood them – we manage to turn but a leaf or two in a thousand-page book, barely scratching the surface. At 2492 we believe that to truly understand and appreciate a destination like Armenia, one must actively and meaningfully engage with its people, history, and culture.

On this platform, we’ve curated the best food & wine, art & culture, nature & adventure, and wellness experiences in Armenia that meet international sustainability standards, including those incubated and accelerated by our nonprofit arm, ONEArmenia (1A), to bring you to the heart of the country while realizing our vision of a thriving Armenia.

Why Armenia?

From towering peaks to deep gorges and medieval churches to ancient ruins, Armenia is a visual wonder waiting to be explored. Look more closely, between the mountains and the monasteries, and you’ll also find a warm and hospitable people, in a land where layer upon layer of history are interwoven, creating a cultural landscape as dynamic as the rocky, biodiverse terrain where it lives. It is a place of vibrant music, age-old traditions, artisanal crafts, mouthwatering eats, home-grown wine, and proud celebrations of life. It is 11,484 square miles of pure discovery.

Measuring our impact

Together with our non-profit arm ONEArmenia (1A), we keep a pulse on the impact of travel experiences in Armenia using our in-house Sustainability Scorecard, constantly scoring the experiences on our platform in three key areas affecting life in Armenia and the country’s future:

People - Social Impact
Our experiences always involve local people in decisions that affect their lives, and engender respect between them and travelers through cultural sensitivity and learning.

Planet - Environmental Impact
We work to minimize the negative environmental impacts of our experiences as much as possible, and make positive contributions to the preservation and conservation of Armenia’s natural heritage.

Profit - Economic Impact
Generating greater economic benefits for local people has been 1A’s bottom line since their start in 2012, and this applies to our work in sustainable travel.

Using a simple 0-5 scoring system, we calculate the total average scores of each experience in these areas and share them transparently on this platform – you’ll find the scores of each experience under their descriptions.

Each of the local hosts represented on our platform strives to minimize any negative social, environmental, and economic impacts their experiences may have. In fact, all the hosts of the experiences developed 1A have undergone extensive training in a number of areas related to travel and hospitality, including food management, hygiene, waste management, environmental protection, cultural heritage representation, and first aid.

There’s always room for improvement though, and if an experience scores low in one or more areas, 1A works with our local hosts to increase their scores, and thus the positive impact in the communities where they take place. And, all the profit we generate from this platform goes back to 1A so that they can continue to make Armenia a better place to both visit and live in.
